Before inviting everyone onto the floor, use the lesson and calling card to understand where people stand. At the event, demonstrate each figure and practice the full sequence, then start the recorded-call track. You can encourage your group while the recording gives the continuing cues.

Hear the recorded caller.

Listen for “right hand swing,” then watch the group respond. This is the voice you play with the music, so you can dance along.

You still prepare the group first: demonstrate each figure and practice the complete sequence before pressing play.

Prepare the room, then the dance.

For a first co-op gathering, keep the setup simple. A fellowship hall, gym, or community room can work; you don’t need a barn.

  • Choose a room with a clear, suitable floor and space for the group to move.
  • Test your playback device and speaker where people will dance. Spoken cues should be easy to hear.
  • Watch the teaching video and group demonstration before the event.
  • Print the calling card and keep the recorded-call track ready.
  • Invite beginners explicitly. Tell families they can learn together.

Make the first few minutes welcoming.

  1. 1

    Welcome everyone

Tell people this is a beginner-friendly night. Invite them to try, take breaks, and help one another.

  2. 2

    Place the group

Follow the lesson and calling card for the dance you chose. Show where to stand, demonstrate each figure, and have the group practice the complete sequence before starting the music.

  3. 3

    Press play

Use the recorded-call track, with the spoken cues audible throughout the room. Keep the device and calling card within reach.

  4. 4

    Pause and reset when needed

If the group loses its place, pause the track, help people return to their formation, and begin again. Leave space between dances for questions and a break.

Take the plan to your next co-op meeting.

Print the room checklist and welcome plan, then choose who will host your first gathering. Save this preview so you can return to it.
